Twenty years ago, the Joanna Briggs Institute was established with a remit to close the gap between research and practice. In 1996, the Institute was but a small team of passionate individuals with a big dream. Evidence based practice was in its relative infancy and it must have seemed an enormous mountain to climb.
Today, however, the Institute is a thriving hub of activity with a staff that has grown from six to 40; an international success story that now includes a global commercial partnership with Wolters Kluwer Health; over 1000 subscribing institutions in 54 countries and more than 80 collaborating entities across five regions of the world. The Institute is certainly making an impact. The first pebble dropped and now the ripples have become waves. We are well and truly on our way to achieving our vision and mission.
To mark our 20th anniversary, the Institute has planned a series of commemorative and celebratory events and activities to take place throughout the year, culminating in an international conference to he hosted in Adelaide, South Australia in November. We hope that you will join us to celebrate this milestone with us and to “drop the pebble” that will take us forward for another 20 years!
